Three Highly-Regarded Golf Courses in Alberta

Jordan DeForest founded the Calgary, Alberta-based school lunch service startup Healthy Hunger in 2010 and has since leveraged his skills in marketing to expand its registered base to over 800 schools throughout Canada. When he isn't working, Jordan DeForest enjoys playing golf.

A diverse province with prairie and mountainous regions, Alberta is home to over 220 Alberta Golf Association clubs. Below are three of the most highly regarded.

1. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge - Not only is Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge the highest-rated course in Alberta, it received distinction as the No. 1 public course in all of Canada by SCOREGolf Magazine in 2013. Set in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, it was designed by nationally-renowned golf course architect Stanley Thompson and opened for business in 1925.

2. Banff Springs - A restricted club with membership only available to 275 Bow Valley residents, Banff Springs is a scenic 18-hole course backed by a beautiful mountain range setting.

3. Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club - Calgary's Canyon Meadows officially opened for business on July 2, 1957 and has since become one of the city's most popular courses. It was renovated and modernized in 2005, which involved significant improvements to its bunkers and fairways and the addition of a new pump and irrigation system.

Calgary Flames Best Passing Season

Jordan DeForest has led Healthy Hunger, Inc., as president and chief executive officer for the last six years, generating more than $4 million in revenue, and attracting 75,000 program users. Beyond his activities with Healthy Hunger, Jordan DeForest enjoys following Calgary Flames hockey.

Kent Nilsson joined the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1979 as a member of the Atlanta Flames. The following year the team relocated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, while Nilsson went on to enjoy one of the most productive offensive seasons in franchise history. In his first season with the team, he improved his 40 goal total from the 1979-1980 season to 49 goals in 1980-1981. Only eight players scored more goals that year. Nilsson would eclipse the 40 goal mark just once over the following nine seasons, with 49 remaining as his career best.

Nilsson’s offensive contributions were not limited to scoring, as he connected on 53 assists in his rookie season, yet managed to improve his passing to 82 assists for his sophomore effort. He placed second as the league’s assist man that year, trailing only Wayne Gretzky. Nilsson’s 82 assists in 1980-1981 have stood as a Calgary Flames record for 35 years. His 62 assists in 1984-1985 rank seventh on the franchise’s all time assist list.
